How can CACI help strengthen your skin barrier?

Do you suffer with irritated skin? Have you been over-doing it by overloading your skin with multiple products containing active ingredients? If the answer is yes, it’s likely you’ve compromised your skin barrier. Time to strengthen and support your skin barrier - CACI can help you do just it.  Lauren Evans, CACI Training Officer, explains how:

‘The skin barrier is the outermost layer of skin – the skin you can see. It acts like a shield, keeping environmental aggressors from attacking the skin, whilst keeping the goodness inside, ensuring that water does not evaporate from the skin, and that the skin’s mineral balance is maintained.

‘When the skin barrier is compromised, rather than skin looking soft, supple and healthy, it can appear tight, itchy and uncomfortable, and become flaky, red and sensitive. This can also occur due to changes in the weather that cause skin to become dehydrated, from sun damage, or even by over-exfoliating the skin.’

What should you look for? Look for products with ingredients designed to help strengthen and support your skin barrier, which is what skin uses to keep the good things in - like moisture, and the harmful things out - like bad bacteria or external irritants.

Ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin in your skincare help to lock in moisture. Find them in CACI’s professional Skin Prep 2 which helps to rebalance the pH level of the skin and our hydrating Hydro Mask (also sold in retail), ideal for a once-a-week skin boost.

Look also for antioxidants in your skincare – find them in CACI Amino-Lift Peptide Complex (also sold in retail) to help repair compromised skin, while defending it against all forms of environmental stressors. Use both morning and night.

In terms of facial treatments for skin prone to irritation, we suggest CACI Skin Calm or Hydratone treatment. If the client is looking for controlled exfoliation, recommend a treatment with our Orbital Abrader once a week. To stimulate cell renewal, choose LED Light Therapy using red LED light, while blue LED light is antibacterial and helps to calm and soothe the skin.
