CACI ‘Pop The Spot’ Myths

June is Acne Awareness Month and at CACI, we're committed to helping you achieve clear, radiant skin. Whether you're struggling with occasional breakouts or more severe persistent acne, we have the perfect professional treatments and at home products tailored to keep your skin congestion-free.

Acne ranges from a few spots on the face, neck, back and chest, to a more severe problem that may cause scarring and reduce self-confidence. Living with acne can impact our self-esteem and left unmanaged, can affect our quality of life, social and psychological wellbeing.

There are still so many misconceptions surrounding acne – and it’s these myths that play a huge part in the stigma surrounding the condition. Time to pop the myths (but never your spots!).

Myth: Your skin isn’t clean if you have acne.

Truth: The acne bacteria (known as Cutibacterium acnes) live on everyone’s skin, usually causing no problems. In those prone to acne, the build-up of oil (sebum) creates an ideal environment for the bacteria to multiply. This is accompanied by inflammation which leads to the formation of red, swollen or pus-filled spots.

Although over-cleansing and over-exfoliating might be a tempting option, it can lead to dryness, more breakouts and long-term damage to the epidermis.  You’re removing the skin’s protective barrier against bacteria, which can cause further flare-ups.

Book a course of 10-15 treatments of our CACI Synergy Purifying Facial once or twice a week. This targets breakouts and acne-scarring, helping to reduce inflammation, clear clogged pores, and prevent future breakouts. Ideal for those looking to rejuvenate their skin with professional care.

Myth: Popping your spot is OK!

Truth: Ask any skin professional and they are in agreement – you should never attempt to pop your spots – it can cause infection, irritation and potentially increase flare-ups. Instead, leave it to the professionals.

Book a CACI professional treatment. CACI’s Ultrasonic Actuator attachment helps to clear clogged pores and remove blackheads and can also be used on papules (raised angry bumps) to help trigger a healing and repairing process.

Pustules (active acne) can be treated with alternating red and blue LED lights (as seen on CACI’s Wrinkle Comb). Red light is ideal for wound healing and increasing cell renewal, while blue light is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial.

Myth: You can you grow out of it.

Truth: While having spots is usually associated with puberty in our teenage years and can often disappear by the early to mid-twenties, adult acne can develop for the first time in people in their late twenties and beyond. Stress can also bring on breakouts by triggering the release of hormones like cortisol, which may stimulate oil production and lead to an increase in acne and breakouts.

Sometimes acne can be caused by medication given for other health conditions or by certain contraceptive injections or pills.

It can also be hormone-related – during our periods our bodies produce excess oestrogen, which triggers the production of oil, so we’re more vulnerable to breakouts. Other conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome can affect skin. Speak to your doctor for advice and book a CACI consultation to discuss recommended treatments.

Myth: Blemish-busting products need to strip the skin of excess oil to be effective.

Truth: Look for solutions for blemish-prone skin that won’t dry or irritate the complexion. Opt for a minimalist skincare routine – choose a gentle cleanser (use morning and night) to avoid aggravation, as well as a lighter moisturiser that won’t clog pores. Look for makeup that is oil-free and non-comedogenic.

CACI’s at home skincare is designed to tackle blemishes and imperfections effectively but gently, using a combination of naturally derived plant extracts and actives that help achieve a clearer complexion and prevent future flare-ups.

Our CACI Purifying Silver Mask is packed with powerful antibacterial ingredients such as Colloidal Silver to detoxify and purify the skin. It works to absorb excess oil, soothe irritated skin and leave you with a refreshed complexion.

Our NEW CACI Clear Skin Serum is a lightweight serum that works to combat spots, while still respecting the skin’s natural protective barrier. This powerful blend of anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory Azelaic acid and Niacinamide will help to reduce blemishes, control oil production and leave skin looking smoother, clearer and less angry.

Myth: Prescriptive acne-fighting medication is the only solution.

Truth: It’s not the only solution. For a gentler and highly effective approach, try CACI Skin Calm Treatment for those with active acne and sensitive skin. This treatment calms redness and irritation, ensuring your skin feels balanced and healthy.

Myth: Spots don’t just appear on the face.

Truth: It is common to get spots on the body too (back, shoulders, chest). Dead skin cells and oil from the sebaceous glands block pores, causing inflammation and skin can become congested.

CACI Clear & Calm Back Facial combines skin rejuvenation with microcurrent technology, along with biotherapeutic LED light therapy. Whether you’re looking to calm ‘bacne’ (back acne), smooth an uneven skin tone, or reduce the appearance of a lingering scar or blemish, this 45-minuteexpress treatment can be added on to a CACI non-surgical treatment or work as a standalone.
