CACI Treats TMJ

Nazia Murtaza is the owner and lead therapist at GLO Holistic Beauty in Edinburgh. She has been a CACI therapist for 13 years and has recently introduced the new Synergy Flex system to her clinic. Her niece Sophie, 22, suffers from Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ).

What is TMJ? A condition affecting the movement of the jaw. It can be caused by teeth grinding, stress, an uneven bite, wear and tear of the joint.

Nazia’s story:

‘When Sophie first came to see me, she was experiencing discomfort and tightness on the right side of her jaw due to TMJ (temporomandibular joint) dysfunction. She presented with restricted jaw movement, visible tension in the right masseter and temporalis muscles, and mild facial asymmetry. The right side appeared tighter and slightly more swollen compared to the left. She also reported pain when eating, stiffness in the mornings, and occasional tension headaches. Overall, her right-side facial muscles were overworked and fatigued, creating noticeable imbalance and discomfort.

I created a tailored CACI microcurrent treatment plan including the CACI Jowl Lift followed by certain steps in the Micro-Touch facial to release muscle tension on the right side, improve symmetry, and restore natural movement. This combination worked to gently re-educate the right-side jaw muscles, improve circulation, and relieve deep-seated tension.

We began with three sessions per week for five weeks to retrain the muscles and establish balance, followed by monthly maintenance sessions to sustain results. Sophie completed 15 treatments, then transitioned to monthly maintenance top-ups.

After the very first treatment, Sophie felt an immediate reduction in tightness on the right side of her jaw. She described her face as feeling lighter and more relaxed, with noticeably less pulling when opening and closing her mouth. There was also a visible softening in the right jawline and cheek area.

By around session 8, Sophie’s progress was clear — the right-side tension had significantly reduced, and her facial symmetry had noticeably improved. The muscle tone was more even, and her skin looked healthier and better hydrated. She also reported fewer headaches and said her jaw felt “normal” again during daily activities like eating and speaking.

By the final session, the TMJ tightness on the right side had almost completely resolved, and her facial balance was beautifully restored. Her jawline appeared smoother, more defined, and her overall complexion looked brighter and more relaxed.

Helping Sophie through her TMJ journey was deeply rewarding. TMJ can be both painful and emotionally draining, so seeing her regain comfort, confidence, and balance was incredibly

fulfilling. As a therapist, it was a wonderful reminder of how powerful CACI microcurrent treatments can be — not only for aesthetic benefits but also for supporting real muscle recovery, improved function, and overall wellbeing.’

Sophie’s story:

‘I experience temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, which causes tightness, tension, and occasional pain around my jaw. It often feels stiff or sore, especially after clenching or during stressful periods. Sometimes it also leads to headaches and a feeling of fatigue around my face and neck.

The discomfort is the main issue, but I’ve also noticed puffiness and visible tension around my jawline and cheeks when the muscles are tight. TMJ can make my face look slightly uneven or swollen, which can make me feel self-conscious.

I manage the symptoms by doing gentle jaw and neck stretches and being mindful of my posture. I also try to reduce stress, avoid hard or chewy foods, and take magnesium supplements to help with muscle relaxation. Regular massage and facial exercises have helped ease the tension as well.

I had heard about CACI as a non-invasive facial treatment that helps with muscle tone and relaxation. I was curious about whether it could help relieve TMJ tension and was recommended to try it.

My first impressions - I was pleasantly surprised. The treatment felt soothing and gentle, and I could feel my facial muscles starting to relax during the session. It was much more comfortable and calming than I expected for something that uses microcurrent technology.

After the first treatment, my jaw felt noticeably lighter and less tense. By the middle of the course, I started to experience more lasting relief and saw reduced puffiness around my jaw. By the end, both the tightness and visible tension had improved significantly.

Since having CACI, I feel much more relaxed and comfortable in my jaw area. My face looks more defined and balanced, with less tension showing around the lower face. It’s also given me a sense of relief knowing there’s a non-invasive treatment that actually helps.

It’s one of the few treatments that has made both a visible and physical difference. I’d like to continue it as part of my ongoing self-care routine to help keep symptoms under control.

I’d recommend CACI to anyone dealing with jaw tension, TMJ discomfort, or facial tightness. It not only eases pain and pressure but also improves circulation and muscle tone, leaving your face feeling lighter, more relaxed, and refreshed.’
